Let’s do something a little more fun this week, shall we? A well-organized and inspiring work space is crucial for your productivity and creativity. Here are our top tips to design a workspace that fuels your artistic passion and supports your business growth.
- Choose the Right Space
- Lighting: Natural light is ideal. If that’s not possible, invest in good quality lighting to avoid eye strain.
- Size: Ensure you have enough space to move around and work comfortably. This doesn’t mean you need a large space – think creatively when it comes to storing your supplies, so that you have enough working room when it’s time to be creative.
- Organize Your Supplies
- Storage: Use shelves, bins, and drawers to keep your supplies organized. Label everything for easy access, if you’re a label kinda person.
- Workstation: If space permits, set up a designated area for each part of your process, from sketching to painting to finishing touches. If not, set up bins or baskets with the materials and tools you use in each stage, then swap out the bins depending on what stage you’re working on.
- Comfort and Ergonomics
- Seating: Invest in a comfortable chair. Your back will thank you.
- Standing Desk: Consider a standing desk if you spend long hours working. It can reduce strain on your body.
- Inspiration Board
- Mood Board: Create a board with images, colours, and materials that inspire you. This can be a great source of motivation.
- Quotes: Add quotes from artists you admire or motivational phrases.
- Tech Setup
- Computer: Ensure your computer and software are up to date.
- Internet: A reliable internet connection is crucial to reduce frustration when you’re researching, uploading work, and maintaining your online presence.
- Personal Touches
- Decor: Add personal touches like plants, artwork, or music. Make your studio a space you love to be in.
- Scent: Consider using essential oils or candles to create a pleasant environment.
Setting up your studio is about creating a space that supports your workflow and inspires creativity. By organizing your supplies, ensuring comfort, and adding personal touches, you’ll create the environment you need for your artistic endeavours. And it helps that you’re also creating a little oasis away from the potential overwhelm of starting an art business.
Next week, we’ll tackle one of the things we get asked about most: pricing your artwork. Learn how to set prices that reflect the value of your art and appeal to your audience.
